Excavated into the tuff (as all the rock churches in the area), it is located in the district Fondovico (or Fondovito) on the eastern ridge of the ravine, in a complex illuminated at night too. It's the largest cave church in the city, has five naves and still preserves some remnants of Byzantine frescoes. In a church room are conserved the victims of the Saracen incursion of 999 d.C..
The church worships the cult of St. Michael and each year on May 8 it promotes a Mass and a procession parade under the so-called "ballune", made of blankets decorations placed between two balconies and on which it is a custom to attach women garments.
