Built in 1611, near "Porta Gervasona," this church venerates the image of the Blessed Virgin, who is attributed with miraculous powers.
The inhabitants of Borgo San Giuliano tell of a miraculous event: it occurred in 1608 when a young man, who had fallen with his horse into the Marecchia River, sought help from the Madonna by looking at her image, which was on the wall that ran along the river, below the stairs of a tower, to which the chain for closing the port was attached. From here comes the name of the Madonna and the church dedicated to her: Madonna della Scala.
In relation to that event, the population of San Giuliano wanted to build a church in honor of Mary, which was financed thanks to the alms of the families of the sailors.
The fresco is attributed to Alessandro Codrini (1608).
