The building is located between Via Tonini and Vicolo Santa Maria in corte. While lacking significant aesthetic value, it is perhaps the oldest example of a two-story minor building from the 12th and 13th centuries. The name derives from "Canava," meaning "a shop where wine is sold in small quantities, sometimes also bread and other edibles" but also a warehouse for grain or salt. The coat of arms depicted on the inscription on the facade dating back to 1683 marks a building belonging to the Priory or Abbey of Santa Maria della Misericordia in Venice.
