The monument was ordered by "Società Garibaldi Reduci Patrie Battaglie", in 1889, to Enrico Astorri (1859-1921), artist from Piacenza trained at Istituto Gazzola and who worked in various cities in Italy, Russia, Argentina and Uruguay; he was a realist artist.
Giuseppe Garibaldi is porteyed as a victorious general with a thoughtful, worried expression.
At the base of the monument another soldier is supporting his mates.
Very skilled with marble, Astorri carried out in Piacenza the bust of Mazzini, Ceresa chapel and the statue to Cristoforo Colombo for the council of Bettola.
