The largest of Perugia’s medieval city gates, towering above the northern side of the high road of Porta Sant’Angelo, it is part of the 14th century section of the wall. It has undergone numerous alterations, from the fortifications carried out by Ambrogio Maitani da Siena in 1326, to the addition of the keep in 1479, as well as 20th century restoration work. Now the seat of the Gates and the City Walls Museum, the roof of the tower offers a magnificent view of the town and the surrounding countryside.
