The monument was designed and built by Lamberto Cusani in the early twentieth century. Survived to the bombings of World War II, it was originally placed in the area in front of the train station. The bronze plaques on both sides are by Ettore Ximenes and recall episodes from the life and works of Giuseppe Verdi.
