The Diocesan Museum of Matera is based on the former Seminary, built in the early twentieth century, at the behest of Archbishop Raffaele Rossi on the spur of the Civita, the oldest part of the city.
The museum is divided into three large rooms on the ground floor where important works dating between the eleventh and the nineteenth century, coming from the treasury of the Cathedral and the Church of Santa Chiara are exhibited.
