The parkland area known as Parchi di Nervi encompasses a delightful, 9-hectar green enclave of Romantic inspiration, made up by joining the gardens of three magnificent mansion houses, i.e. Villa Groppallo, Villa Serra and Villa Grimaldi Fassio, located close to the seaside promenade in the easternmost part of the city.
The parks are a succession of meadows, pathways, exotic and tropical woods, Mediterranean flora, agave, palms, cedars, pepper trees, maritime pines, olive trees and oleanders. The Villa Grimaldi Fassio section of the parks hosts a beautiful rose garden. Best loved by children, semi-tame yet curious squirrels and blackbirds populate this ‘Garden of Eden’ in the city’s ‘East End’. Here and there, dotted between the green of the trees, visitors will catch glimpses of the intense light blue of the nearby sea. During the summer, the parks sometimes host open-air events, while the villas are home to important art museums, such as GAM (Modern Art Gallery), the Frugone Collections, the Wolfsonian Collection, and the Luxoro Museum.
