About this tour
The Cinque Terre boat tour from La Spezia is a full day on the water, setting out from the city harbour and returning there in the evening. The boat crosses the Gulf of the Poets and then follows the Ligurian coast, so you see the vineyard terraces and the tight clusters of houses from the sea rather than from a crowded platform.
The first stop depends on the day. One itinerary calls at Riomaggiore, Monterosso al Mare and Vernazza; the other starts at Portovenere instead, then continues to Monterosso and Vernazza.
- Monterosso al Mare, the largest village, with a medieval centre and the parish church of St John the Baptist
- Vernazza, built on a small promontory that ends in a fortification, like the prow of a ship
A local guide travels on board, and the return boat ticket is included. Food, drinks, tips and guided visits of the villages are not, so the free time ashore is yours for lunch, a glass of local wine or a swim in the Mediterranean before the boat heads home.
If wind or sea conditions force a change, the guide explains it on board in three languages: English, French and Italian. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users.
