About this tour
With a Miramare Castle ticket you walk into a 19th-century residence that sits on a rock jutting into the sea, looking over the Gulf of Trieste and the Adriatic. Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg had it built for himself, and the rooms are still there to wander through, well preserved.
The building is made of Istrian white stone and mixes styles, so details keep turning up as you go from room to room. Among the highlights:
- the Orientalist salons
- the throne room, lined with red silk
- the exhibits of the independent National Museum inside the castle
Commentary comes from a digital audio guide: download the app on your phone before you go,. Afterwards, stroll through the gardens of the park, which are included in the ticket and open up more views over the water and the coast. A live guide is not part of the visit.
The booking confirmation is a voucher that must be exchanged at the ticket office. The last entry is one hour before closing. Free entry is granted at the ticket office, on presentation of a document, to EU citizens under 18 and to non-EU minors.
