The Certosa di Loreto is an inactive Carthusian abbey located on the hills of the city of Savona. The certosa was founded in 1480, possibly on the remains of the pre-existing castle of Loreto. It stands on a hillside just outside the town of Savona, on the eastern side of the Letimbro valley, along Via Ranco, which is the ancient road connecting to the inland. The structure features the church at its highest point, with the monks' cells sloping down toward the valley. In the church, which is regularly used for religious offices, there is an interesting painting of Saint Michael the Archangel, which has recently been restored. The certosa is often used for classical music concerts, art exhibitions, and conferences.
