After two years of a relentless restoring work that revived the whole building and frescoes, the San Vincenzo church - now called Sala dei Teatini - is finally open to the public. This key event further proves the constant activity of Piacenza city to look after its artistic and cultural heritage in order to share it with the wide public.
Inside, the breathtaking frescoes that illuminate the former church belonging to the Theatine Order had been closed to the public for a long time, with a consequent deterioration of these artistic treasures. By restoring frescoes, as well as the wooden decorations on the façade of the church, was possible thanks to an expensive operation which involved several professionals from different fields, all under the coordination of Sopraintendenza (Arts Ministry) and Piacenza Municipality.
Following the restoring activity, another pioneer project transformed the church in a cutting-edge auditorium: a place full of culture to be shared with people. Its unique acoustic characteristics and the technology adopted to such purpose proved ideal to host the rehearsals of Orchestra Giovanile "Luigi Cherubini" under the direction of Riccardo Muti. The orchestra is based in Piacenza.
This transformation into a music hall, along with the renewed building, has been a crucial turning point towards one of the main cultural objectives of the Municipality office: a Cittadella della Musica (Music Area) within the San Vincenzo quarter, offering a space where all activities from the Municipal Theatre, Sala dei Teatini, Conservatory, Filodrammatici theatre and Cavallerizza shows can find a common ground to coordinate the cultural activity in Piacenza.
