One of the five major gates in the Etruscan walls, it faces north-east. The pointed arch was rebuilt in the Middle Ages, while the piers are still the original travertine blocks. The right hand side of the exterior façade still shows traces of the original Etruscan arch. Its name stems from the lilies of the coat of arms of Paul III Farnese, which decorated the under-arch.
