It is the main commercial street of the town, a big boulevard of around 1 mile full of clothes and shoes shops, perfumeries, jewelries, bars and fast foods. It begins from Villa Dante, which represents the southern side, and, after crossing Piazza Cairoli, ends to the sea, next to the port from which it is possible to reach Reggio Calabria and Aeolian Islands by hydrofoil. At the end of 90s the Viale San Martino changed its structure due to the construction of the tramway. Now it is a big avenue with two roadways and the tramway in the middle, bordered by a line of palms and various trees which give to the city a modern and cosmopolitan look.
