Teatro del Giglio has always been the artistic and cultural point of reference in the city of Lucca. The birth of the theater, dating from the seventeenth century, sees its complete construction in 1817, following a period of decline for the fall of the Republic of Lucca. Its project is by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini. The name was chosen by Maria Luisa of Bourbon, sovereign of Lucca.
The Teatro del Giglio has always enjoyed intense artistic activity that has seen the moment of maximum splendor in the nineteenth century, when it was the stage of the famous Italian operas such as those of Verdi, Rossini and Mascagni.
Since 1985, the Teatro del Giglio has been recognized as traditional theater, documenting its centuries-old artistic tradition.
The artistic activity of the Teatro del Giglio is divided into Seasons: Drama, Dance, Opera and Symphony. The latter opens as usual the theater season in September, standing out for importance and commitment.
The stable troupe of the theater is the Teatro del Carretto with whom the Teatro del Giglio co-produce famous shows such as Snow White, Romeo and Juliet, Odissea, Pinocchio and many more.
