Orsetti Diodati Palace is an old building built by Lucca Diodati family in the sixteenth century, on the foundations of a medieval palace. Today it is the headquarters of the municipality of Lucca, of the offices of the mayor and the council.
On 17 September 1541, iIn the palace Carlo Diodati was born; according the tradition, the child was baptized in the palace by Pope Paul III, having as godfather the Emperor Charles V. In fact, the two were in Lucca those days. In 1567, suspected of heresy, Diodati emigrated to Geneva. In the Swiss city he married Flaminia Micheli, from Lucca, and after the death of this, his second wife, Maria Mei, from Lucca too. From this marriage was born, in 1576, Giovanni Diodati, the great Protestant theologian and Bible translator.
