The Church of San Salvatore is a church in Lucca located in the square of the same name. Already existing in 1009, it was rebuilt in the 12th century. Of this building, the floor plan and part of the wall structure in the facade and the south side, up to a height of about two meters, are preserved, while for the rest the structure shows signs of a 19th-century neo-medieval restoration. In the architraves of the right-hand door in the facade and that of the side, the hand of Biduino (second half of the 12th century) is evident; both bas-reliefs bear themes connected to the cult of St. Nicholas. The interior, with three naves on pillars and a straight-ended presbytery, presents itself in the aspect it took after the restorations carried out under the Bourbons; the Napoleonic suppression of 1808 had in fact produced devastating effects.
