About this tour
Lecce's baroque look comes from one material, the local limestone, and this Lecce stone workshop lets you work it with your own hands. For centuries the stone has been shaped into decorations, sculptures and architectural details, and a local master craftsman now shows you the traditional techniques passed down in the trade.
The workshop is held in the old town, close on foot to Santa Croce, a landmark of Leccese baroque. A brief introduction to the history and character of the stone comes first. Then you pick up the craftsman's tools and start shaping your own creation.
You can choose between a one-hour workshop and a longer two-hour session. Either way the activity suits beginners as well as anyone who enjoys crafts, and you leave with the piece you made, a keepsake of your time in Lecce.
