An Irish friend of mine comes to visit me quite frequently and I really appreciate the fact that every time she comes back here she discovers new aspects feeling at the same time the city and its people closer and closer. When I have friends who want to see the city what I like to do is to immerse myself in them and enjoy the streets , the buildings, the shops, Genoese people just as if I were a tourist with the good fortune to know everything "behind". In my opinion the top of the city center is obviously the old town with its narrow streets, where yet now I get lost....I refer, in particular, to Via San Lorenzo, Porta Soprana, the San Lorenzo Cathedral where you will be able to see with an eye on the main entrance on the right the silhouette of a dog carved in marble, it is said to be the domestic pet of one of the sculptors : ). Around the Cathedral you can get lost in the hundreds of streets (in Genoese Caruggi), in particular, Via San Luca, Via del Campo (that inspired the legendary musician De Andrè), Via Luccoli , going to Palazzo San Giorgio and continuing westward to the Commenda di Pré you can not escape the multi-ethnic atmosphere in the same store where you can buy a lettuce or a wig ! Take a break with a piece of fragrant focaccia choosing between different flavors, my friend Kevin (Australian of Perth) could not stop to try the onion focaccia with each oven we met on the road, calling it "food of the Gods" :). To visit the historic center of Genoa in a sunny day is particularly fascinating and it's nice to imagine the same way with a trip back in time, in 1400 when those same streets were animated by the splendor of flourishing maritime economy! Before leaving Genoa you can not miss the amazing panorama from the Spianata Castelletto (Esplanade Castelletto) where in a moment is possible to capture the soul of the city and where you could stay for hours focusing on every single detail. In case you have the opportunity to do some trips my advice is Camogli, a place of incomparable charm and authenticity. Staying near the center you can choose to immerse yourself in a marine pearl: the village of Boccadasse maybe at aperitif time sipping drinks on the beach! My city is one and one thousand, discovery to you! Enjoy your stay!
