Bologna's libraries

Bologna's libraries
In a university town nine centuries old, some libraries are visited like museums. The Archiginnasio library has filled the old university's lecture halls since 1838, under thousands of coats of arms; the Biblioteca Universitaria grew with 25,000 volumes from Pope Benedict XIV, who opened it to the public in 1756; the Biblioteca della Musica keeps Padre Martini's collection, spared by Napoleon's confiscations.

Then a church turned art library and the books Carducci annotated. All in the center: half a day on foot, from San Giorgio in Poggiale to Casa Carducci.
