Pavan Clocks activity dates back to the early 1900s from the work of the founder, Giuseppe, born in 1905. At the age of 11 he began his work at the Laboratory of silverware Mario Faggi, located at the beginning of Contra' del Monte, where he remained for a year.
The passion for mechanics bring him close to the art of watchmaking, which has the opportunity to learn at the Jewelry & Watch store of Ortolani sisters, adjacent to silverware Faggi. Here Giuseppe knows the watchmaker Guglielmo Faggi who in the '20s, when the sisters Ortolani close the business, opened his own workshop relying on legacy equipment and machinery of the previous owners. Some of these facilities date back to 1700 , when they were inherited by another watchmaker of German origin.
Mr. Faggi install the business in Contra' Manin, one of the most important streets in the city center. It was originally called "Contra' delle Vetture" (Street of Vehicles), due to the presence of numerous shops of saddlers, farriers and horsemen, providing facilities for cars and coaches. It was also a post station among the most important in the city. Not far away, finally, was the Red Hat Hotel, a favorite destination of many famous people who were passing by Vicenza.
In this important commercial area Giuseppe and Guglielmo work together until 1932, the year of the death of Mr. Faggi, who - having no heirs - decided to leave their assets to the student.
The bombing of Vicenza in 1944 caused a temporary displacement of the store, which finally came back in its original place at the end of the reconstruction of the building that housed it.
The sons of Giuseppe, Giovanni Battista and Renato, follow the footsteps of his father at a very young age: soon they become expert watch repairers of all types and brand, and expand the business by selling even jewelry.
Today the activity is followed by Renato, daughter Giuliana and grandson Ruggero, all animated by the same passion of Giuseppe; they sale mainly Swiss watch brands, both classic and modern, with proposals for timeless jewelry. Inside the store you can still see some of the historic machinery dating back to 1700.
In 2005, the Municipality of Vicenza has awarded the Pavan Clocks the plate of Historical Shop, a tangible sign of the results obtained through the efforts and work of the founder of the family, Giuseppe Pavan.
