The Victory Lighthouse was built on a bastion of Fort Kressich, an Austrian military base completed in 1854 and opened in 1927. Besides its function for the safety of navigation, still guaranteed by the impressive Lantern at 115 meters above sea level, the articulated ornamental structure, and magnificent sculpture of the unknown Seaman, the anchor of the destroyer “Audace”, the first Italian ship to enter the port of Trieste on November 3, 1918, and the copper slim figure of the Winged Victory, makes this monument a commemorative monument dedicated to the fallen of World War I. You will enjoy a spectacular and unique view of the Gulf of Trieste and the karst ridge from the second ring which is open to the public. The Lighthouse belongs to the Ministry of defence and is open to the public thanks to an agreement with the province of Trieste.
