The 'Alfiere with drawn sword and tricolour', a work by the famous Ticinese sculptor Vincenzo Vela (1821-1891), was the gift Milanese citizens presented to the Piedmontese army in 1857, the army on whom rested the hopes of freedom from Austrian rule.
