The Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art of Siena, located in the Oratory of San Bernardino and in the connected premises, was established in 1980, at the behest of Archbishop Mario Jsmaele Castellano (1961 - 1989) to preserve, enhance and promote the knowledge of the historical and artistic heritage, coming from the diocesan territory.
The Museum, inaugurated in 1980 at the behest of Archbishop Mario Jsmaele Castellano, was located in the premises of the Seminary of Montearioso in Monteriggioni.
In 1995 the collection was temporarily housed in the National Picture Gallery of Siena, until it was transferred to the Oratory of San Bernardino and the premises connected to it, inaugurated on March 13, 1999.
The museum itinerary unfolds in six exhibition halls, along which are presented works and liturgical furnishings, dating from the 11th to the 18th centuries and ordered chronologically.
