The Arc of San Lazzaro was designed by Giambattista Magnani and was inaugurated on the day of the marriage of the Duke of Parma Edward Farnese and Margherita de 'Medici. The triumphal arch is a structure with three arches and is decorated in a baroque style. Ippolito Medini and Boffa dealt with the ornamental part made of stucco, while Amidano, Giacardi, Salmi, Bertoia and Giovanni Lippi took care of the pictorial representation of the key scenes in the history of the city. The first restructuring back to the year 1714 on the occasion of the marriage of Philip V with Elizabeth Farnese of Spain. In 1805, the arch was restored in neo-classical style for the arrival of Napoleon I. It finally dates back to 1825, one last restoration on the occasion of the visit of Francis I and Maria Luigia.
