It's one of the 5 squares on the northern bank of the River Arno, near the Ponte della Fortezza. At the center of the square stands the statue of Giuseppe Mazzini, by Orazio Andreoni 1883, placed in honor of the Italian patriot who died in Pisa in 1871. Surrounded by elegant medieval palaces, such as the city government building, built in the spaces of Palazzo Medici, where Eleonora da Toledo (wife of Cosimo I de 'Medici) died.
