Egyptological collections of the University of Pisa originated in 1962, thanks to a first donation made by Laura Birga Picozzi, a descendant of the family of Ippolito Rosellini, the Pisan pupil of J.-F. Champollion, considered as the father of Italian Egyptology.
Donations, purchases, excavation and research in Egypt and Sudan from the Department of Egyptology of the University of Pisa added materials that now make up a collection important both for its asset value, both for its consistency and its scientific significance under the historical and archaeological perspective.
Collections are connected with the Egyptological Laboratory "I. Rosellini"of the same department.
