Piacenza's Romanesque churches

A guide by ZonzoFox · 6 places

Piacenza's Romanesque churches
The Romanesque churches tell of the Piacenza of pilgrims and merchants, before the Farnese. On the pillars of the Duomo the guilds that paid for it signed carved panels, such as the "bakers' column"; at San Savino the chancel mosaic, from around 1100, shows a game of chess. Santa Brigida was founded by an Irish bishop for pilgrims bound for Rome, and there in 1183 the Lombard League signed a peace with Barbarossa.

Six churches in the old town, from Sant'Eufemia to San Savino: an hour and a half on foot.
  1. 1 Church of Sant'Eufemia
  2. 2 Church of Santa Brigida
  3. 3 Church of San Donnino
  4. 4 Basilica of Sant'Antonino
  5. 5 Cathedral
  6. 6 Church of San Savino
