Commissioned in the 16th century by Cardinal Tiberio Crispo, it was built over an earlier existing loggia. Its name originates from the “peace” imposed by Pope Paul III Farnese following the ‘salt war’, (1540), and the town’s defeat. From the 1500s until 1812, the building adjacent to the church housed the Drawing Academy, forerunner of the present day Fine Arts Academy.
