Another masterpiece in Padua by Jappelli. The Verdi Theatre, the main theatre in Padua, was inaugurated on June 11th, 1751 with the name of Teatro Nuovo and it was commissioned by some noblemen from Padua, who entrusted its project to Antonio Cugini di Reggio and its building to Giovanni Gloria from Padua.
The theatre was restored in 1848 by Giuseppe Jappelli, who conceived the curved prosperus with the porch made of 11 arches, which were later closed. It was renamed Verdi after the 1883-1884 restoration.
The Verdi Theatre is the executive see of Teatro Stabile del Veneto (created on July 20th, 1992), while the Carlo Goldoni Theatre in Venice is its legal see.
