The current artistic shrine on the old Sacred Spring was built in 1800 by the architect Mignoni. The entire Diocese was involved. On its dome stands the statue of faith. Under the dome, the large, beautiful statue of Saint Geminiano sits enthroned, in the act of blessing his spring and his city.

Cognento has been, and still is, a destination for pilgrimages and a place blessed by miraculous events. It and its church are more simply called San Geminiano by the people of Modena. In the area of the Sanctuary lies the oldest Christian reality of Cognento and the second pledge, after the Duomo, of our Saint. It is the miraculous Spring of Saint Geminiano. This is what it is called in ancient documents, and tradition attributes its origin to Saint Geminiano himself.
