Corso Buenos Aires is a decentralised shopping street close to the city centre. It boasts a strategic location as it is easily reachable by underground both from the city centre, with the main artistic and cultural attractions, and from the outskirts.
Over 1.6 kms long, it qualifies as one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. Its configuration is similar to an American model, in particular, Fifth Avenue in New York.
Initially the name of this street was Corso Loreto, in honour of the Church of Santa Maria di Loreto that had been destroyed and turned into a housing complex. Later it took the name of Corso Buenos Aires at the behest of the mayor at the time, Ettore Ponti, who wanted to project a more international image of the city.
