On the seafront, at the north of the port, one of the churches built before the earthquake of 1908 overlooks the Straits of Messina. It is called Gesù e Maria del Buon Viaggio, also known as Ringo, from the name of the fishermen village where it stands. It was built between 1598 and 1604 by the nobleman Lorenzo Abbate.
The Baroque façade is adorned by a floral decorated frame, that stands above the entrance. At the two sides of the portal, there are two niches with the statues of Christ and the Virgin; during the past, both of them had an oil lamp in their hand that was lighted as a point of reference and a blessing for the fishermen.
The village still keeps the ancient tradition of the Palio marinaro (boat race held each year during the summer) and, during the festivities in honor of the Madonna del Buon Viaggio (a procession with the simulacrum of the Virgin is celebrated the last Sunday of August), fishermen of Ringo and of the nearest villages race in the sea.
