Built in the thirteenth century, for centuries it was lead according to the greek-orthodox rite, of which it preserves the typical decorations in the side altars.
Noteworthy are the oriental baptistery, probably coming from Cappadocia, and the wooden statue of the thirteenth century, depicting the holy bishop. As it can be deduced from documents preserved in the chapter archive, for centuries it has been linked to the Basilica of St. Nicholas of Bari.
In front of the church, at number 47, we find the birthplace of Francesco Saverio Mercadante.
