In the '40s who was at the market on Thursday in Piazza dei Signori, could wince at the sudden sound of a row of metal clocks held together by a strong thread. The watch shop holder Umberto Piantella was trying to attract the attention of many people shopping at stalls. Piantella made them play every 15 minutes so that even the foreigners could be aware that there was a watchmaker.
It is in this workshop that in 1918 found a job Pietro Dal Ponte, a shy boy of 13 years who later became the factotum of the shop. At that point in '44 , when Pietro decides to start his own business, Umberto Piantella does the math and prefer to retreat, leaving him to continue the business. The workshop becomes "Dal Ponte", and get transformed in the years. His son Alberto, now in the store with his brother Sandro reports that "At that time repairs were especially important, so windows were occupied by the banquet to work well exposed to light."
Today, in addition to repairs, sales is the main business, with brands such as Longines, Tissot, Rado, Hamilton and with the expansion of silverware, goldware and jewelery. From dad Peter in fact, Alberto and his brother Sandro have learned everything, but they also developed the ability to grasp the changes of the market. The shop in Piazza dei Signori, where now works even Paul, son of Albert, however always retains the salient features of prestige watchmaking and jewelery.
