Originating from Corso, on the left side of Piazza Cavour lies the entrance to the old fish market; one of the most picturesque and characteristic places in the city.
The work of the Rimini architect Giovan Francesco Buonamici, it was erected in 1747. It presents itself as a two-story loggia, open by three round arches; at the corners four statuettes of dolphins with jets of water (the fountains for cleaning the fish). Inside, long benches of Istrian stone, where women sold the poor (clams).
Today this area, along with the adjacent Piazza San Gregorio, has become the center of the young nightlife, with pubs, wine bars, and meeting points, particularly on Friday evenings.
