At the beginning of the sixteenth century, the Tempietto dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua was built in memory of the miracle that, in the thirteenth century, made a mule devout to the consecrated Host. Rebuilt in the seventeenth century after the earthquake of 1672, it has changed its original appearance due to various restorations. It is octagonal in shape, surrounded by columns and clad in marble.
It is said that the miracle of the mule occurred through the intercession of Saint Anthony of Padua in Piazza Tre Martiri in Rimini. Legend has it that the saint was offering the consecrated Host to the citizens when a farmer passed by with a mule. The farmer simply did not want to receive the Host, but the mule sat down, as if prostrating itself, in front of the saint's hand.
