Porta Reale, also known as Porta Caterina, Porta delle Vittorie, or Porta di Santa Teresa, is a historic gate in Palermo. The gate was built in 1784 to replace the pre-existing Porta delle Vittorie, which dates back to the Arab domination of Palermo (the original Arabic name was bàb al futùb).
The current name, however, was given by Queen Maria Carolina of Austria-Lorraine, consort of King Ferdinand I of Bourbon. The gate is also known as Porta di Santa Teresa due to its proximity to the monastery of the same name in Piazza Kalsa.
It is a work of great style, which, unlike other gates, is visible from all four cardinal points.
