The Church of the Ten Thousand Martyrs is a Baroque church in Palermo. It was built in the early 17th century at the behest of the Knights of Jerusalem, also known as the Company of the Ten Thousand Martyrs. The church was completely renovated in 1715. During the last century it also became the headquarters of a political party. Currently the church is in a state of abandonment.
The current structure shows a simple facade and the decorative motifs recall the themes of martyrdom such as palm trees and laurel, at the center of the structure there is a stucco medallion in which there are Saint Horace and his 9,000 soldiers who together with another 1,000 pagans were martyred by the Roman emperor because of their conversion to Christianity considered a betrayal.
