This collection brings together paintings, sculptures, silver objects, and liturgical vestments that not only document the artistic history of the Diocese, with particular reference to the city, but also bear witness to the role played by the Church in the life of the community of believers. The paintings span a period from the late 15th century to the late 18th century. From the Venetian panel with the Madonna del Carmine to the Madonna del Rosario by the Lecce painter Oronzo Tiso. This allows visitors to encounter the truth of the faith as witnessed by Saint Ursula in the large altarpiece by Paolo Finoglio or the painting Pasce oves meas, a probable work by N. Poussin. The exhibition is enriched by the presence of sculptures and silver objects, most of which belonged to the liturgical treasury of Lecce Cathedral, particularly between the 17th and 18th centuries. Of particular note is the extraordinary Tronetto, a throne crafted by the silversmith Gaetano Starace, intended to house the monstrance during solemn expositions.
