The Venetian Loggetta in Piazza del Popolo, Cesena, was built by Andrea Malatesta in 1400 and completed in 1466; today it houses the Museum of Natural Sciences, overlooking Piazza del Popolo.
The Rocchetta and the Venetian Loggetta, designed by architect Matteo Nuti, were built in the military style of the late 15th century; these structures were originally open and equipped with battlements and defenses; today, as centuries ago, the Rocchetta faces the south side of Piazza del Popolo. Subsequently, over the centuries, it underwent transformations until its current form.
In 1598, a public fountain was built at the foot of the building, which was often used as a watering trough, later called "Fontanone"; in our time, the "Fontanone" no longer exists as it was removed at the beginning of the 20th century.
