Among the ancient towers of Città Alta, the tower of Adalberto, better known as “the tower of hunger,” also seeks its place.
Emanuele Roncalli (The Mysteries of Bergamo - 2, Bergamo, Burgo, 1999): “The harsh definition leaves no room for doubt and evokes a place of deprivation, torment, perhaps even torture and agonizing repentance. It is here, within these walls, where light will never filter and where no lament will ever be heard outside, that the authorities of the Serenissima imprisoned tax evaders.”
