Porta Calcesana, with superstructures dual-pointed arch, is one of the ancient gates in the walls of Pisa, dating back 1156. Its name comes from the road that led to Calci.
Over the centuries, the gate was closed, but in 1916 it was reopened to solve traffic issues. After this re-opening it has become known as Porta Garibaldi by the new name of the busy street that passes through it.
Today the gate is surronded by some private houses.
