The museum is located in the old Fabbrica del Ghiaccio (ice factory) of the former Municipality Abattoir (1912) and develops over an area of 2,000 square metres.
It includes exhibition rooms, didactic laboratories, an exposition area, and a cinema room. With the support of multimedia tools (including tactile tools for blind people) the exhibition path moves along “La Pianura” (the plain), “La collina” (the hills), and “La Montagna” (the mountain) according to innovative museum criteria aimed at recreating natural environments.
The core of the collections comes from Regio Istituto tecnico, the result of research and classification work of teachers, researchers, and passionate citizens.
Among the various collections, Flora Italiae Superioris of 1820, the malacology collection by Raffaele del Prete, and the precious mineralogy collection “Giovanni Dosi” are worth a visit.
