The shop opened for business in July 1939, selling radios, records and phonographs. Memorable moments were the arrivals of the stages of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France bicycle races, when Tarpani put a loudspeaker outside to transmit the radio broadcast and crowds of enthusiasts packed Piazza Matteotti to listen. In 1959 Tarpani began selling sheet music and musical instruments. In 1985 it became the first dealer of compact discs in Perugia, and today it still offers a prestigious assortment of CDs.
