The Florio Stand is a building constructed by the Florio family, designed by Ernesto Basile in 1905 on the southern coastline of Palermo.
The building was only partially realized, as the original project included a large Kursaal on the sea. It was used for a long time for pigeon shooting competitions and water sports by the Palermo nobility. Later, during the war, it was used as a warehouse for troops, and after the war, it was acquired by the nearby Buccheri La Ferla Hospital to be used as a solarium. The original construction had been largely tampered with, as it had been left abandoned for many years. Starting in 1985, restoration work was carried out and today the building hosts cultural events.
The style is deeply marked by Islamic culture, and it is also one of the first Sicilian structures of the modern age built using iron. It features a red dome with a pinnacle at its center.
