Porta Carini is one of the oldest gates in the city. The date of its initial construction is unknown, with the first confirmed date being 1310, when it was rebuilt. In the first half of the 18th century, ownership passed to a monastery, and the nuns used it as a recreational area. Finally, in 1782, the gate was destroyed and rebuilt again. In 2003, the municipality oversaw its restoration, returning it to its former glory and equipping it with a night lighting system.
It is located at the entrance of the popular Capo market, just a short distance from the courthouse and the Teatro Massimo.
The gate is built of limestone, in a typically neoclassical style, quite austere with few concessions to decoration. On the outside, we find four false columns with square bases and corresponding Doric capitals.
