The Casa dello speziale (the apothecary's house) in Piazza Duomo, could only accommodate a pharmacy. Here, the art of pharmacy, at the limit between science and magic, has survived for centuries, perhaps since 1416. It is subject to local regulations and inspections, such as that which mentions the pharmacy Al pomo d'Oro - former name of the current Al duomo pharmacy - on the local registry of deeds dated 1686: at that time, it was owned by the apothecary Giovan Battista Baroni and was found perfectly in order.
This ancient pharmacy is a pretty gem for the city. A historic building, which also boasts precious interiors, as the shop retains pieces of furniture of great value, as the Venetian style shelving covering the walls, painted in tempera and gold lacquered. Not to mention the collection of Bassano ceramic vases, dating back to the 18th century, where the spices are kept. In 2011, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification, the ancient pharmacy was awarded, in Rome, for being one of the historic Italian enterprises already existing in 1861. For this reason, it has received the prize for The companies that have made the history of Italy.
