The palace is a former residence of Francesco II Gonzaga, where it is possible to admire the famous “Triumphs of Caesar” frescoed by Andrea Mantegna.
A rich municipal collection of sculptures, frescoes, coats of arms and archaeological remains tells the history of Mantua, above all during the Renaissance. Still, you can admire the magnificent Loggia dei Marmi – id est the marbles loggia – and XIV to XVI century frescoes.
The museum hosts a centre for documentation on municipal collections, study supports for schools and temporary exhibitions.
