About this tour

With Leaning Tower of Pisa tickets for a set entry slot, you skip the queue at the ticket office and walk up to the tower when your time comes. Then you climb 297 steps at whatever pace suits you. Afterwards the Cathedral next door opens its interior to you, and the digital audio guide app (Italian, English, French or Spanish) explains what you are looking at.

The tower has a long story. Building began in 1172 and went on in three stages for 199 years. It is the third oldest structure on the square, after the Cathedral and the Baptistery, and since 1987 all of them, together with the cemetery, have belonged to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Piazza del Duomo.

If you want more than the tower, pick the option for the whole monumental complex. One ticket then also opens:

  • the Baptistery, with its mosaics
  • the Camposanto
  • the Opera del Duomo Museum
  • the Sinopie Museum

This is a self-guided visit, with no live guide and no transfers. Shoulders should be covered for the Cathedral. Children under 8 cannot climb, and the 297 steps make it a poor fit for anyone with mobility issues or a heart condition. Bags and metal objects go to the cloakroom at 21 Piazza del Duomo before you climb.
